Chi Cross Cup #4 & #5

Heritage Race Club

Last weekend was the first double race weekend of the Chicago Cyclocross Cup. Saturday we were in Waucanda, IL. Sunday over in Carpentersville, IL. Saturday's course was flat, fast, windy, and included a flyover . This was the first race where the wind played a big roll in how the races developed. Sunday's course was a little more technical and included a unique roller section that gave some riders a bit of trouble.

Consistent results from Al Reyes in the 50+ placing 7th in Wauconda and 6th in Carpentersville. Pat is also having a consistent season placing 11th both days this weekend in the Cat. 3 races.

Lindsay also had a great weekend with 8th place on Saturday. The course on Sunday was better suited to her strengths and she bounced back and finished 4th in the Women's Cat. 1/2/3.

In the Men's 1/2/3 race MikeMattand I had some tough competition all weekend from an out of state racer Aaron BeebeSaturday The Pony Shop guys immediately took to the front, pushed the pace on the first lap, and created a separation in the field in the head wind sections. Aaron took some hard turns at the front and eventually Mike, Aaron, and I found ourselves in a group off the front. Mike and I took turns increasing the pace to try and soften Aaron up. That back fired a bit when Mike fell off pace and I was left to battle on my own. I was able to make a pass on the last lap at a critical point on the course and held on for the win. Mike rolled in for third place a few seconds back. Matt was only able to race on Saturday and finished 9th in the Cat. 1/2/3 race. He also makes the best faces during the races

Sunday, Mike was intent on redeeming himself and got a huge gap on the field on the first lap of the race.  Later on I closed the gap solo from a chase group and we worked together to distance ourselves from the feild. Mike took the win with me in second a couple seconds behind.

The season is rolling along well as we head into the halfway point of the season at Sunrise Park on Sunday
